Climate Services for Disaster Risks Reduction in Africa

ACMAD: The African Centre of Meteorological Application for Development is the Continental Implementation Center on MESA THEMA Continental Climate Services (Climate Change Monitoring) for Disaster Risks Reduction (DRR) which is one the four elements in the implementation of Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) in Africa. MESA AU THEMA ( delivers the following continental climate services:

Objective: to provide planning managers and decision makers with relevant climate information and projections to enable them to formulate appropriate policies and strategies on climate change adaptation to build climate resilient societies and economies on the African continent.

(2)Drought Service and Seasonal Climate Forecast (

Objective: of the drought service and seasonal climate forecast is for preparedness and to support strategic planning ahead of season through assessing seasonal and intra-seasonal variability and to forecast the probability of drought events. Click here to access the services (

Expected Output include: Drought Information System established as a dynamic and accessible decision support tool that provides users the ability to determine the potential impacts of drought and the decision support tools needed to better prepare for and mitigate the effects of the drought.
