The Continental Environmental Bulletin and related products are based on the analysis of environmental indicators derived from satellite imagery, allowing cost effective monitoring of the environmental situation at the continental level. These indicators include NDVI and other vegetation indicators (http://land.copernicus.eu/global); RFE Rainfall products (http://earlywarning.usgs.gov/fews/africa); active fire products (https://earthdata.nasa.gov/earth-observation-data/near-real-time/firms) and chlorophyll-a and SST products (http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov).

The bulletin is produced twice a year based on an analysis of growing seasons in Africa, along with a digital mapping file for use in Google Earth to visualise the major areas of interest, and various briefing notes.
