The new MESA Station is installed at the Institut Supérieur des Techniques Appliquées (ISTA), Kinshasa. Eng. Georges Gulemvuga, MESA CEMAC thematic action manager demonstrated the new MESA Station to Prof. Pierre Kasengedia Moumbe, the Directeur Général of the Institut Supérieur des Techniques Appliquées (ISTA), Kinshasa. This is part of the policy being implemented by CIOS to install new MESA Stations in universities in the region to ensure long term capacity in the central Africa region on space-based environmental monitoring.
As a result of close cooperation between the European Commission, the African Regional Economic Communities, the ACP Secretariat, the African Union Commission and EUMETSAT, a succession of projects have been organised to help African countries get better access to Earth observation data. The focus for the initial PUMA project was to provide access to satellite data for weather forecasting.
